Join us for the CAOEC Learning Series: DROPS - Dropped Object Prevention & Inspection Training
This one-day Dropped Object Prevention & Inspection training course provides participants with the knowledge and practical tools required to identify, assess, and control dropped object hazards in Drilling & Service Rig Industry.
The course covers the full DROPS lifecycle, including hazard identification, risk assessment, reliable securing methods, tool tethering, passive drop systems, cargo securement, material handling at height, and exclusion zone management. Participants will gain a clear understanding of primary, secondary, and safety securing principles, inspection techniques, and failure pathways that lead to dropped object incidents.
Attendees will learn how to conduct effective inspections, implement corrective actions, and build and or audit a proactive dropped object prevention program within their organizations.
This training is designed for supervisors, safety personnel, inspectors, rig hands, maintenance teams, and anyone responsible for working at height or managing equipment overhead. The objective is simple: eliminate dropped object incidents before they occur.

About the Presenter:
Marc Maloney, Dropped Object Specialist

Marc Maloney is a seasoned Dropped Object Prevention Specialist with more than 20 years of hands-on experience in the service rig sector, advancing from green hand to Rig Manager. His operational background is complemented by 13 years in Health and Safety leadership at a Service Rig Company, where he focused on hazard mitigation, regulatory compliance, and building strong safety cultures in high-risk industries.
Marc also served as General Manager of a full stump-to-dump logging operation, overseeing field operations, logistics, and workforce safety across all phases of timber harvesting and transport.
For the past four years, Marc has worked as a DROPS Inspector, specializing in dropped object risk identification, inspection protocols, and implementation of reliable securing methods. He currently serves as Chairman of the DROPS Canada Chapter and actively contributes to three of the six global chapters within DROPS. Marc has completed Train-the-Trainer certification through DROPS Online, supporting industry-wide education and awareness initiatives.
His career reflects a strong commitment to preventing serious injuries and fatalities through structured dropped object prevention systems, training, and accountability at all levels of operation.
