The Alberta provincial government accepts CAODC and AUMA request to recognize Alberta oil and gas industry
For Immediate Release: February 13, 2017
The Alberta provincial government accepts CAODC and AUMA request to recognize Alberta oil and gas industry.
In February of 2016, the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) started a petition to have February 13, 2017, the 70th anniversary of the discovery of oil at Leduc, declared Oil and Gas Awareness Day in Alberta. In October of 2016, members of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) passed a resolution during their Annual Convention, calling on the provincial government to recognize the importance of the oil and gas industry in Alberta.
Today, the Alberta government, along with over 25 Alberta municipalities, has declared February 13, 2017 Oil and Gas Celebration Day.
The oil and gas industry in Alberta, and across Canada, is responsible for creating jobs, investment, and tax revenues that contribute greatly to our national economy and high standard of living. Those who work in the industry are Canadians from coast to coast to coast, and they have earned their reputation as the world’s most responsible energy producers.
“We would like to thank Minister McCuaig-Boyd, the AUMA, and all others who helped make this declaration possible today,” says CAODC President Mark Scholz. “We are unapologetically proud of the men and women who work in our oil and gas industry. They are the best in the world at what they do, and deserve to be recognized.”
